GL Solar Simulator ("the App") provides solar panel estimates for UK residential properties. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
When you use the App, we process the following data to generate your solar estimate:
Property address and postcode — used to look up your location coordinates, EPC data, solar irradiance, and electricity tariff region. This data is sent to our servers to perform the calculation.
Roof details — roof area, orientation, and pitch. Either auto-detected via the Google Solar API or entered by you manually.
Contact details (optional) — if you choose to request a quote, we collect your name, email, and phone number. This is stored in our database and shared with one certified solar installer to contact you about your quote.
We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, precise GPS location, analytics data, usage tracking, cookies, or any data beyond what is described above. We do not require an account or login.
The App uses the following third-party services to generate your estimate:
Google Places API & Google Solar API — to look up your address and analyse your roof from satellite imagery. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
NASA POWER API — to retrieve solar irradiance data for your location. This is a public US government dataset and no personal data is sent.
DLUHC EPC Register — to retrieve your property's Energy Performance Certificate data. This is publicly available UK government data.
Firebase (Google Cloud) — to store property and quote data. Subject to Firebase Privacy Policy.
Property estimate data is retained indefinitely to improve our service. If you submit a quote request, your contact details are retained until the quote process is complete, after which they are deleted within 90 days. You can request deletion at any time by emailing us.
We do not sell your data to third parties. If you request a quote, your contact details and estimate are shared with one certified solar installer. No other sharing occurs.
The App is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.
